FAQ
Are my kids the right age to play with Papaton Shadow Theater?
Our experience shows that the set is particularly suitable for kids aged between 3 and 8 years old – they enjoy coming up with their own stories and acting them out. Younger kids can be fascinated with the shadows too, but they usually need their parents to direct the show and act out the different roles.
What’s inside the Papaton Shadow Theater playset?
Inside the box there are 20 precision-cut characters and 10 props to help you tell four fairy tales (The Lion and the Mouse, Little Red Riding Hood, Three Little Pigs and The Tortoise and the Hare) and your own story (Once Upon a Time Story), a colorful folding screen and a phone stand. On the back of the box there is a six-step guide to setting it up and putting on your own show.
How do I create my own shadow theater at home with the Papaton Shadow Theater playset?
It couldn’t be simpler.
- Download the free Papaton Shadow Theater app using the QR-code or via papatonkids.com and set up the colorful folding screen.
- Choose the characters for your play.
- Select your chosen fairy tale in the app, and place your phone on the phone stand.
- Turn off the lights, press PLAY in the app and let the show begin.
What are the characters and props made of?
The characters are made of thick cardboard that is safe for kids of any age. It’s soft, won’t cause cuts and is hard to tear. The set has been certified as safe by Intertek Testing Services.
How will I know which characters and props to pick?
In the description for each fairy tale in our app, we tell you which characters and props you will need for your performance. Kids will likely need your help when they first start to play, but they’ll soon remember the fairy tales and be able to pick out the characters themselves.
What is the Once Upon a Time Story?
The Once Upon a Time Story is a fairy tale you make up together with your kids. We’ve included a set of characters for you to combine as you wish. There’s a Prince, a Princess, a Trusty Steed, a Little Dragon, a Forest Monster and a Castle. Will the Princess stay with the Dragon or run off with the Prince? Is the Forest Monster good or evil? It’s all up to you, and the story will change the way you want it to.
Why do I need the Papaton Shadow Theater app?
The free Papaton Shadow Theater app helps you recreate the atmosphere of a real theater at home. This is how it works: you start a fairy tale in the app, and your phone flashlight turns on. The original music starts playing, setting the fantasy mood, and the subtitles appear automatically, letting you keep your hands free for the characters.
There’s no sound when I turn the app on.
Most likely, your smartphone is in silent mode. Please check the button on the side of your phone.
How much does the app cost?
The app is free. Download it at www.papatonkids.com, in the App Store/Google Play, or by scanning the QR code on the box.
Can I play without the app?
Yes, the app is just an addition, not an essential part of the set. It was created to enhance your experience by adding music, composed especially for the Papaton Shadow Theater, fairy-tale scripts in different languages, and a flashlight that turns on automatically. If you don’t happen to have your smartphone at hand, you can use a table lamp, any music you like (or no music at all) and read a book or just tell your own story.
I’m not sure about the app – I don’t usually let my child use devices.
We promote healthy use of smartphones, and we’ve received a lot of praise for developing an app that enhances the play experience without replacing it. The app provides you with the fairy-tale scripts, a flashlight and soundtracks for your performances. During play, the phone should be on the stand, you don’t need to touch it or give it to your child.
What languages are the fairy tales in the app available in?
The playset includes characters and props for five fairy tales, and the scripts are available in eight languages: English, Spanish, Simplified Chinese, Italian, German, French, Br. English and Russian.
